Meet Our Lead Strings Instructor — Shayna Rhodes
We are proud to have Shayna Rhodes as the lead string instructor at Rhapsody. Shayna holds a Bachelor’s in Music from West Virginia University and a Master’s in Music from Cleveland State University. She also holds a degree in Early Childhood Education and spent over a decade as a preschool teacher and director, bringing a warm and intuitive approach to her lessons — especially for younger students.
Her teaching experience is matched by an extraordinary performance career. Shayna has performed in professional orchestras since the age of 16 in both the U.S. and the U.K., playing alongside world-renowned artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Joshua Bell, Emmanuel Ax, and Isaac Stern. Before moving to Westlake, she lived in Los Angeles where she directed a Suzuki program, led the Westside Youth Orchestra, and performed with the Cornerstone Quartet.
She also holds certifications in special needs education and formerly served as a Special Needs Coordinator while teaching in England — giving her the tools to support diverse learning styles.

🎶 A Joyful, Structured Approach to Classical Training
Our teaching is grounded in classical and traditional methods, including elements of the Suzuki philosophy, while keeping lessons fun, engaging, and tailored to the needs of each student.
Lessons focus on:
- Strong technical foundations (posture, bow hold, tone production)
- Reading standard music notation
- Ear training and theory skills
- Solo and ensemble repertoire
- Performance etiquette and musical expression
Even our youngest students learn the joy of creating beautiful tone and playing real songs from the very beginning — while older or more advanced students are challenged to deepen their skills and artistry.
🎻 Learn, Play, Perform
At Rhapsody, performance isn’t just an end goal — it’s part of the journey. Students participate in informal studio performance classes throughout the year where they perform for their peers, receive encouragement, and develop confidence in a friendly, supportive setting.
Twice a year, our students also have the chance to participate in formal recitals held at Dover Congregational Church — a stunning venue with a professional-level performance space. These recitals give students the opportunity to share their progress with family and friends and experience the joy of performing in a beautiful, real-world setting.
